The Alternative Presents...
Might & Magic ]I[ Editor
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
By The Byter
Introduction
~~~~~~~~~~~~
This morning, Fairlight / USA released Might and Magic ]I[, the
long-awaited RPG game based on the Wizardy model. Might and Magic ]I[ has
some very nicely done 320x200x256 graphics (the 640x200x16 suck, don't bother)
and very good sound. Even users without sound boards get quite decent
sounding digitized effects.
With this release, Fairlight / USA has proven that it can and will
release high-quality games, contrary to the belief most people have about new
groups. With the Xmas season upon us, I will expect more such releases from
Fairlight / USA.
Although cheating can make the game less enjoyable, there are many
folks who prefer to cheat to see a bit more of the game quickly without the
assorted hassles which go along with playing normally. Thus, I present this
cheat which allows you to boost your characters up a little and make survival
a little easier.
Remember - ALWAYS take precautions when running a cheat. Some kids
like to write trojan horses disguised as cheats. Take the precaution of
running Norton's Disk Monitor or NOX before running a cheat the first time, to
make things a little safer.
Version 1.0
~~~~~~~~~~~
Version 1.0 is rather basic, but I wanted to get it out the same day
that the game was released. It uses the MegaTraveller ][ engine, so if you
were familiar with that editor, this one will come quickly. It allows you to
change a character's name, level, attributes, armour class modifier, age
modifier, and maybe one or two other things.
To run the editor, simply run MM3CHT. Enter the pathname of your
saved game file (no need to enter the full path if the save game is in your
current directory). If you leave this blank, it will use SAVE00.MM3 by
default. You will then be asked for the character to edit. This is
important: enter enough of the character's name to be unique. Entering
"Resur" should be sufficient to edit Resurectia, but just "Re" may not be. If
you get into the editor and the name shown is NOT the correct character, do
not edit anything and exit. It IS possible to edit data other than characters
with this editor, so be careful and make backups of your save file.
A new version will be issued in a few days which will give more
control over your character, and hopefully party gold/gems as well.
Commentary
~~~~~~~~~~
You've got my cheat, so you can listen to my complaints. BBS ads in
zips. They're stupid, asinine, and nobody reads them. All sysops who do this
are accomplshing is making zips larger and larger, and telling any potential
users out there "Hey! I'm a lamer! I've got a cheap board! It's so cheap,
I've gotta BEG for users in ZIP files!". Be cool, fellow sysops, dump the ZIP
crap.
Another development is the Red October, which many of you have heard
was busted by Novell. Novell apparently got his number off of a ZIP ad in a
file downloaded from The Wish List. Be careful.
CAE
~~~
For those of you who haven't experienced The Lexicon CAE, it's pretty
damn cool if I say so myself. Distribution of wares via the CAE is incredible.
As of the writing of this file, Might and Magic ]I[ has been downloaded from the
CAE 19 times in the space of six hours. Multiply that by 5 disks and you can
see how much transfering is going on, and can see the value to couriers that
the CAE brings. The CAE will be the only place I'll upload these cheats to,
but I'm sure they'll spread like wildfire from it anyway. Check it out - it's
the latest craze in the pirate community. Appropriate defference goes to the
great AE's and Cat-Fur's of the 1981-84 era.
Also call the MidPoint Void CAE in 303 and the Crack in Time CAE in
201.
Closing Notes
Lexicon of the Cabal. I can be reached via private Netmail on CelerityNet,
and via chat on The Lexicon of the Cabal and The Lexicon CAE.
